Answering a subject access request in one command

A subject access request asks what personal data you hold about somebody. Answering it properly means searching everywhere it could be, which for most sites means a fortnight of nervous grepping.

Analytics is usually the worst of it, because the data is keyed by identifiers that are not names and joining them to a person is exactly the thing you are being asked to do.

It is much easier when the honest answer is that there is nothing to find. No address is stored. The identifier lasts a day and the key that made it has been destroyed. What is left is counts, and a count is not personal data about anybody in particular.

That is not a way of dodging the request. It is the answer, it takes one command to produce the evidence for it, and it is the same answer next month.
